Peridots are one of the few gemstones that occur in only one color: an olive-green. The intensity and tint of the green, however, depends on the percentage of iron in the crystal structure, so the color of individual Peridot gems can vary from yellow, to olive, to brownish-green.

What makes peridot stands out is that it illumines brighter in moonlight than in sunlight, thus it is called “THE EVENING EMERALD”. Often mistaken for emeralds in the middle ages, peridot adorns some of the most ornatejewelry, such as the farmed Treasury of the Three Magi in the Cologne Cathedral in Germany.
Though emerald is the national gem of Egypt, Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt, was not wearing emeralds but was famous for wearing deep green peridot stones from the mines in Egypt. It is also believed that Napoleon gave Josephine a peridot jewel as a symbol of his love for her.
